The Lady Legacy Metro Championship was organized in 1994 by Jamelle Shaw with the support of the Ladies Birmingham Golf Association (LBGA) and the Birmingham Golf Association (BGA). The annual event for female amateur golfers of the Birmingham area, whether they play public or private courses, identifies the champion of the six county B'ham metropolitan area: Blount, Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair, Tuscaloosa, and Walker.

All proceeds from the tournament go to the Lady Legacy Scholarship Foundation (LLSF), a 501(c)(3) entity which awards four-year scholarships to deserving female golfers who are high school graduates seeking a college education in Alabama. LLSF also makes grants to primarily high school and middle school girls golf programs - to help start or maintain their team. Since inception, and through February of 2024 the LLSF has awarded $313,850 in scholarships and over $144,424 in grants.
